Fireworks
The Chinese used to have a stick of bamboo with a hole in one end of one side. A cord would hang down from the hole. Gunpowder would be placed inside the bamboo and then the cord would be lit. The flame would burn and move up the cord until the pressure was to much and the bamboo shot up into the air. The pressure would keep building until the bamboo itself exploded and created a loud bang. Different coloured fireworks were made with different coloured powders put into the gunpowder. The fireworks would be set off on special occasions like Chinese New Year and Birthdays. Fireworks were also used to scare off enemy's before they fought them in war.
